The Art of Sabrage
For those who have experienced this wonderful skill, you will no doubt be aware of the extra 'wow' factor that Sabrage can add to any occasion.

Dating back to the times of Napoleon's army, dashing French Cavalry Officers would often use a sabre to remove both the cork and glass neck (annulus) from a Champagne bottle, to the amazement of all who witnessed it. Some may say that it was the ultimate in chat up lines, as the gallant Chevaliers would  woo fair mademoiselles with their technique and skill.

Down the ages the tradition has continued, perhaps not in the same way as it would have back in Napoleonic times, but still in the fine style celebrated and promoted by the Confrérie du Sabre d'Or.

On a wedding day a large proportion of guest's admiration is on a bride, and rightly so. However, to add to the excitement and to surprise the guests, a bridegroom can occasionally steal a little bit of the limelight and, using a ceremonial sabre, perform Sabrage of Champagne during the wedding breakfast, after which the couple use the sword to cut the cake.

Naturally, Sabrage isn't just for weddings, but can be performed at numerous types of functions and particularly where there is a requirement to have some form of formal toast.
